The belief that children learn through play is the guiding principle that Luna Park Preschool was founded on and has maintained since its inception in 2001. Over the past 12 years we have developed a philosophy and curriculum that nurtures each child’s potential growth and development and instills in the children a love for learning and a desire for discovery and challenge.
It is important to us that children like school and that they see school as a place designed for them to be with friends and to take part in interesting and stimulating activities. Young children are active learners. Through self-directed play, they test out, organize and integrate new information, ideas and concepts.
“Children benefit both from engaging in self-initiated spontaneous play and from teacher planned and structured activities, projects and experiences. Rather than detracting from academic learning, play supports the abilities that underlie such learning and thus promotes school success” (Copple & Bredekamp 2009).
